Benithe’s journey began with a personal struggle. Becoming a mother at 20 left her feeling confused and worthless, worried about being a burden to her family. However, with her family’s support, Benithe returned to college and earned a diploma.
Motivated by her own experience, Benithe recognized her unique position to empower other young mothers and young people facing similar challenges. “There were girls who got pregnant but did not have the chance to continue studying,” she reflects. “So I said, ‘Why can I not do something to help them and impact their lives? Because I have been there, too.’”
Benithe’s vision extends beyond addressing teen pregnancy. She is driven by a commitment to empower girls, women, and young people, acknowledging the intersectionality of their struggles.
Over the past five years, working closely with girls, women, and young people in their communities has shaped our guiding philosophy: Kundwa (Loved), Murika (Shine), and Igisha (Educate).
(Loved)
(Shine)
(Educate)
Our philosophy of Love, Shine, and Educate informs our three core programs.
